The growing Iranian-Syrian power is a balloon power, meaning it can easily burst. However militarily strong they become they will never be allowed to take control of any Arabian Gulf nation (yes Arabs actually live on both sides of the Gulf and westerners arriving to that coast via Persia named it mistakingly Persian, the Turks didn't, the locals never did), nor will they be allowed to topple Israel. The maximum impact this emerging power can have is small scale wars in Gaza and South Lebanon. The latter has increasingly become a more difficult place to operate from on a small scale though and might have just become another Golan Heights type of border- i.e. calm.

The same applies to Israel which however strong it might become militarily, the impact of that power has reached its diminishing returns scale.

The real most rationale solution is for everyone to engage in a constructive win-win negotiations which permit all peoples in the region live in dignity, fairness, and equality. This means, a confederation between Israel and Palestine with free mobility of people, Golan back to Syria, and Hizbolla's arms surrendered to Lebanese government.

Liz:

I have already criticized the letter in other places. regardless of the content, the language used in the letter is inappropriate and ineffective, from the very beginning to the end, specially for that level of communication. it's as if the letter is being written by a pre-high school student. These news agencies surely have English experts. or else, they could simply hand over this letter to an English private school in Tehran, there are many of them there, to at least correct its bold grammatical mistakes. the letter supposed not to be the kind of the typo mistakes I make here regularly! I think, these agencies should have paid much attention to what they write instead of trying to distance themselves from Ahmadinejad's policies regardless of the accuracy of their criticism. I am not sure what they were really looking for by mentioning their criticism of Ahmadinejad. it's a silly mistake in the letter. and, I am afraid the dept of their criticism of Ahmadinejad's gov. is pretty much the same as the strength of their letter to the world media.
it's about media not realpolitik, and for media language matters the most.

well, with almost a turn about in Turkey's Mideast policies, the talk of Iran-Turkey-Iraq-Syria nexus is getting the ground by the time. Why should Syria, with all the considerations Leveretts made here, abandon the real stakes for some hollow promises? it could have been possible for the U.S to shaken Syria-Iran alliance before European opening at the peak of Syria's isolation. but, there seems to be no great reason for doing so right now. Syria can get what it wants by just waiting as the Leveretts also say. what else Jordan has got with its peace treaty with Israel other than hatred of its citizens and jeopardizing the stability of the regime to the point of brink? Syria is not fool not to consider these fact.

it seems, the U.S is willing to unusually compromise her interests with every little player in the region, but is not willing to accept the big guy of the region with a far less price in overall.

Muslims Are Their Own Worst Enemy

http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1103124654042&s=107098&e=001fxXrQ4cQ2MiRB-6iZ-nbtX8LlJhv3sIs4ZFN6cpLClXvl7kDQt8bueb_CS5OBqDBCqKyKOFd7zOTTOerjkB6R8az_AJf_-mfhOxYAicjVVdCVw9ESTo-z48dkUdpqHsKVWAwQVw2WCALnUN8aVA1ivpEX9jd8IfG

By Paul Craig Roberts

Another factor is the willingness of some Muslims to betray their own kind for U.S. dollars. Don’t take my word for it. Listen to neoconservative Kenneth Timmerman, head of the Foundation for Democracy, which describes itself as “a private, non-profit organization established in 1995 with grants from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) to promote democracy and internationally-recognized standards of human rights in Iran.”

By now we all know what that means. It means that the U.S. finances a “velvet” or some “color revolution” in order to install a U.S. puppet. Just prior to the sudden appearance of a “green revolution” in Tehran primed to protest an election, Timmerman wrote that “the National Endowment for Democracy has spent millions of dollars during the past decade promoting ‘color’ revolutions in places such as Ukraine and Serbia, training political workers in modern communications and organizational techniques. Some of that money appears to have made it into the hands of pro-Mousavi groups, who have ties to non-governmental organizations outside Iran that the National Endowment for Democracy funds.” So, according to the neocon Timmerman, funded by the National Endowment for Democracy, it was U.S. money that funded Mousavi’s claims that Armadinejad stole the last Iranian election.

During President George W. Bush’s regime it became public knowledge that American money is used to purchase Iranians to work against their own country. The Washington Post, a newspaper sympathetic to the neocon’s goal of American hegemony and war with Iran, reported in 2007 that Bush authorized spending more than $400 million for activities that included “supporting rebel groups opposed to the country’s ruling clerics.”

This makes the U.S. government a “state sponsor of terrorism.” For confirmation, one of the U.S. paid operatives, who conducted terror operations in Iran, has ratted on his terrorist supporters in Washington. Abdulmalek Rigi, leader of the Baloch separatist group responsible for several attacks, was recently arrested by the Iranians. Rigi admitted that the Americans in Washington assured him of unlimited military aid and funding for waging an insurgency against the Islamic Republic of Iran
